Mrs. Jan Smith is a veteran teacher/librarian in the East Baton Rouge Parish School System, and has been the librarian for Cedarcrest-Southmoor Elementary since 1998. She holds several degrees, including a Bachelor's in Education, a Master's in Literature, a Library Science graduate degree, and a "Plus 30" (thirty graduate hours past the Master's).

One of her favorite hobbies is the collection and appreciation of children's books. She encourages her students not only to read books, but also to write and illustrate their own.

She encourages students to participate in their teacher's Accelerated Reader Program and has furnished the following public library branches with copies of the AR titles in the Cedarcrest Library: Greenwell Springs Road, Jones Creek, Bluebonnet, and Goodwood. A copy of the AR quizzes available at Cedarcrest are also on this site under "Resource Center".
